Patients can be admitted at their request either from another hospital or directly from home. Your Specialist or General Practitioner will commence the admission process by completing the Admission/Referral and Consent Form with you and you can complete the patient admission details and health history forms either online or in hardcopy. Hardcopy forms should be returned to:

Spendelove Private Hospital
24 Spendelove Avenue

In some cases, your Doctor will liaise with Spendelove Private Hospital directly (for medical admissions and particular surgical cases).

If you are being transferred from another hospital, our medical and admissions team will liaise with the ward to arrange your admission on your behalf. Even if transferring from another hospital, your stay with us is fully covered by all private health funds or DVA. If this is contrary to what you are told by another hospital or health fund please contact us immediately.

You can secure your admission to Spendelove Private Hospital prior to your surgery, however, in all cases, we endeavour to accommodate all requests for admission.

It is important to ensure that you have the following items available on admission:

  • Any letter(s) from your doctors
  • All medications that you are currently taking or a list of your current medications including strength and dosages. This includes vitamins, mixtures, creams, inhalers and drops
  • Medicare Card
  • Private Health Fund details and Card or Veterans Affairs Card
  • Any pension to concession cards
  • Pharmacy
  • Payment for incidental expenses
  • Night attire, dressing gown and slippers/shoes (with non-slip soles)

Please note that Spendelove Private Hospital does not accept responsibility for lost or damaged personal items or valuables.

Every patient and situation is different. Commonly, patient stays are between 7 to 14 days but can be shorter or longer as necessary. This is best discussed with the doctors and nurses at Spendelove Private Hospital.

Please bring your current medications in their original packages (including vitamins, mixtures, creams, inhalers and drops) with you into hospital.

The nursing staff will secure these medications in a locked cabinet. If possible, please bring a list from your Doctor of your current medications, their strength and dosages. Any additional medications required while at Spendelove Private Hospital will be ordered from the pharmacy and provided to you. Upon discharge, any medication that is required will be supplied to you to take home.

Many patients who are admitted to Spendelove Private Hospital do not have Private Health Insurance. Please ask your Doctor to be admitted here and an estimation of costs associated with your stay will be estimated for you before your admission.
